Selection Panels - Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship

On behalf of the U.S. Department of State, the Gilman Scholarship Program thanks all the institutions that have participated in Gilman Selection Panels. The advisors from these institutions provided their time and expertise in the selection process, and their contributions are essential to the success and integrity of this program. If interested in serving as a Gilman panelist in the future, please look out for an email to all registered and verified advisors in both the Fall and Spring.

Review Applications

The Gilman Program invites advisors and administrators from campuses nationwide who work with students studying abroad to be selection panelists.

Selection panels are held virtually through Zoom. Some panels may be held in-person at the offices of the Institute of International Education. Selection panels occur after every cycle’s application deadline.
Specified dates are assigned according to the needs of the program and your schedule in the survey we send out by email.
Availability is limited. We try to diversify the institutions on our panels and generally can only have one representative from an institution at a time.
If you are not selected to serve during a cycle, we hope you will be able to join us in the future. You are also welcome to forward the interest form to colleagues who are interested in serving.

How to Become a Panelist

If you are interested in serving as a selection panelist for the upcoming cycle or would like to be considered for the future, you must be a registered and verified advisor in the Gilman Advisor Portal. We will send out an open call for panelists by email in the fall and spring.

After Your Panel

Once selection panels are finished, the Gilman program team will review financial need, recommendations, and overall Gilman budget.
The U.S. Department of State will then review recommended applicants and approve awards.
The Gilman program team will notify applicants of their application status via e-mail.
