Applicants must identify and select Gilman Campus Advisors in their application. This gives the Study Abroad Advisor and Financial Aid Advisor access to certify applicant’s program eligibility and financial aid eligibility.

Step 1: Contact Your Advisors
- Use the Advisor Directory to identify your study abroad and financial aid advisors.
- Reach out early to share your program details with your study abroad advisor.
- Talk to your financial aid advisor about financial aid–including whether you receive the Pell Grant (Gilman) or other Title IV federal financial aid (Gilman-McCain).
Step 2: Select Your Advisors
- Select any registered advisor from your institution even if you have not worked with them before.
- Study abroad advisors can be any faculty or staff member at your institution who is able to certify your study abroad program information.
- Financial Aid advisors must be from the financial aid office.
- If an advisor is not listed at your institution, ask them to register by completing this form.
Step 3: Submit Your Application
- Advisors cannot certify your application until it has been submitted.
- Advisor certifications are due one week after the student application deadline.

What Do Advisors Certify?
The Gilman Program requires two Gilman Campus Advisors to review and confirm eligibility details about your application. Applicants can review eligibility requirements for the Gilman Program here.
Tips to Avoid Common Application Issues
- Connect with your advisor early: Schedule a call, virtual meeting, or in-person meeting to discuss your study or internship abroad plans and program details. Some institutions require programs to be affiliated with the campus, so check with your advisor before applying.
- Select the correct institution in your application: Choosing the wrong institution can assign the wrong advisors, make your application incomplete, causing your application to be incomplete and will not be reviewed.
- Talk to your financial aid advisor: Make sure they know you receive a Pell Grant (Gilman applicants) or other Title IV federal aid (Gilman-McCain applicants).
- Verify your financial aid eligibility if needed: In those cases, you may be asked to submit documentation verifying your Pell Grant or Title IV eligibility “if selected as a Gilman recipient.”
